This is a book on how you can get to the heart of these challenging emotion states to find their intrinsic gifts.
From the back cover--
Discover and uncover the hidden narrative within difficult mental and emotional states
In some self-help and meditation circles, it’s common to hear the refrain, “Just sit with your feelings.” What’s often left unsaid is how each emotion has its own signature movement or “story to tell.” In other words, sitting with confusion is different from sitting with anger, which is different from sitting with loneliness, and so on. Not only does each emotion have its own distinct narrative and manner of unraveling, but each has its own unique gift to impart to those who are patient enough to sit through the unfolding.
In each of these short books, I focus in on a specific emotional and mental state and present a map of the terrain you’ll likely traverse when you eventually do sit with and process that particular emotion at hand.
My hope is that you’ll find inspiration and value to sit with and to digest—that is, to “eat”—these difficult emotional and mental states as they arise and offer their hidden and sometimes surprising gifts.

The Gifts that Lie Hidden within Difficult Emotions Part 2 Feeling Stuck and Frustrated Yuichi Handa 9781546525370 Books
Another eye-opening, perspective-changing offering by this author. It is a quick read, which I will re-read many times as necessary, in order to fully digest its contents. I found pieces of my life in every page of this book, and also found myself wanting to deny that recognition. It is humbling to bring even a little of my awareness to the ways in which I keep myself stuck through self-deception and expectations, and the ways in which the “stuckness” manifests as impatience, frustration and depression. It is difficult to look at, but the author never claims this process is easy, or comfortable. Knowing I have a tendency to avoid looking at the undesirable aspects of my nature, I plan to use this book to help direct my mind to areas of my life of frustration and disappointment, and use the methods presented in it to help me better see things as they are. If you are willing to do the uncomfortable inner work in order to gain greater clarity, perspective and peace, then I would strongly recommend this book.Product details

The Gifts that Lie Hidden within Difficult Emotions Part 2 Feeling Stuck and Frustrated Yuichi Handa 9781546525370 Books Reviews
Another little gem from Yuichi Handa. He writes in a friendly, conversational tone, full of humor, and it's just fun to read, but at the same time it's thought-provoking, stimulating, and indeed full of profound wisdom. A book to read more than once, taking your time, and letting it sink in. Highly recommended!
A lot of self help books rehash ideas we've all.heard before. This author comes across as intelligent and wize and offers actual NEW perspectives. Will read all his other books. Really good book.
I received a free promotional copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved every chapter and every thought attached to them.
I read part 1, Confusion, and thought it was (still is) Excellent, but part 2, Feeling Stuck & Frustrated, took me beyond and left me wanting more.
Patiently waiting for part 3 and part 4.
Thanks again, Yuichi.
Another simple yet challenging book on dealing with emotions. Dr. Handa's style is personable and straightforward; providing personal examples and skill-building exercises. His work echoes the wisdom of ancients while inclining the reader to apply these truths. In this installment the author summons such affective states as feeling stuck and frustrated, submitting they may not be very different from one another. Once one is able to consider they are, in essence, dealing with two sides of the same (emotional) coin, then they can approach them similarly.
The take away is that one often seeks clarity from these emotions and the, rather counterintuitive, way to achieve such a state is to sit with feeling stuck/frustrated. If you read the first book, or the third, then you may realize that sitting is a euphemism for meditation, contemplation, or introspection. The result of one's sitting with these difficulties allows one to obtain the gifts that lie within, what I think one will find is that the gifts are different for each individual.
Another short, concise, and highly applicable book. I have already suggested this book to at least 1/2 a dozen clients. If you get it, enjoy!
I like this one, but not as much as the first and third book. I think that's because this book itself was getting me frustrated, mostly because it was being too honest with me, haha. For me, I really had to make sure I was in the right head space to read it. It resonates with me a lot, and it would be relatable for a lot of people. Dr. Handa is a great writer - easy to understand and very clear. I would just remind you that it is a self-help book, and because of that, it really does take some work to implement. This one isn't as "easy" as the first book is to "digest." That being said, you don't *have* to read the first book to understand this book, but I think it would be difficult to fully understand some of the references without reading the first one before this one. So I recommend getting hooked into this series by reading the first book, then going to this one. But if this one's getting you frustrated, return to it at another time. it's broken into small digestible chapters so that you can read it in small pieces, all at once, revisit parts you need to revisit, and/or just reread the whole thing. If you find yourself getting frustrated with some of the mental work you're doing, try putting it down and returning to it another time. That worked for me.
Elegant. That is the word I would use to describe Dr. Handa's explanation of difficult mental and emotional states and his process for untangling and demystifying them. Nothing is better than simplicity and while the nature of the subject and the genius of the writing and thought process are in no way 'simple' the fact remains you walk away with a digestible plan or course of action.
I especially like the concept of seeing the redeeming value that may still exist once you have given up on a particular desire, as there is a load of silver waiting to be mined if we dare to excavate a little bit more. The author explains when we step aside and ask 'what's at the root of this desire that I've held onto for all this time? What's the core experience I'm seeking within this want?' Or, what is it I want to feel? That is where the jewels are hidden. Thank you to the author. I look forward to Book 3.
Another great resource from this author. I read the first book in this series and I was excited to see this one come out. I've read it twice, but still have quite a bit of work to do with it. Unfortunately, it’s no “3 minute abs” and it seems like it will take some time and effort to implement these practices and receive the "gifts" the author writes about. In the short period I've worked with it I can see that it's affecting the way I deal with frustration and opening new doors. A lot of the ideas in the book go against my nature, but that is probably for the best. It is a well written short book that is easy to read and understand. I would recommend it to anyone who has frustration in their life and would like to find a new way to deal with it.
